Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim


Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim is an Associate Professor of Computer Graphic and Image Processing at Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He received his B. Sc. (Hons.) in Computer Science (1999) and his MSc. in Computer Science (2002) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Then, he obtained his Ph. D. in Spatial modelling from Universiti Putra Malaysia (2008). His research interest is Image Processing and related application used its. The current focus is on applying the Image Processing knowledge to the application of Eyes of Things (EoT) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Image Processing Enhancing Visual Aspect of Internet of Things (IoT)

Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) being discussed by governments, professionals and researchers over the world. Emerging technologies breakthroughs covering physical, digital and biological worlds impacting all aspect of humankind. The revolution is changing the way we live, work, and connected to one another. Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Digital Medium and Media is an enabler to spur current and future application. Nowadays, people are get connected each other and also connected with things as tools to assist people in their life. Thus, a sensor is a fundamental equipment for data gathering. A camera is a sensor will become major tools to capture images and convert to meaningful information for assisting people in decision making. Therefore, Image Processing as fundamental knowledge to be enhanced for increasing capabilities of IoT application. It is well-known that Image Processing research has been doing for so long until the certain stage that machine has intelligent enough to replace human vision in several industries. However, with new emerging technologies of a camera, with several sizes and wide spectrum with digital capacities of the technologies, and resulted in new research direction in image processing to improve the visual aspect of IoT applications. In this keynote, experiences of our research in this area will be discussed. The major concern is a data acquisition; images and others signal received from devices; image enhancement; features extraction; segmentation; and image reasoning method. Besides, future research of Image Processing and IoT will be described with the new area of research which is Eyes of Things (EoT).
